5 x 5 Reference Grids for Fall 2017 release
For each measure on the California School Dashboard and the Oakland Public School Report Card, there is one or more 5x5 reference grids showing how results for status and change are translated into different status and change "Levels", as well as how these results are transformed into the overall performance color result for that indicator. For all of the state indicators other than suspension rate, a single grid can be used in this result translation regardless of school or LEA type. The translation of suspension rate data to status, change and performance (color) results requires a set of reference grids, each of which is used with respect to a specific type of school or LEA. Reference Grid images reproduced with consent from the Alameda County Office of Education (ACOE).
For all measures except Academic ELA and Math, the reference grids remained the same for the Spring and Fall 2017 releases, so the grids for the Fall release are shown below. Click HERE to view the prior (Spring) reference grids for the Academic Indicator.
At some point in the future, the state will finalize which of the cells in each reference grid correspond to meeting the state goal for that measure. At present, they've proposed using all blue and green cells with the exception of those green cells that correspond to medium status levels. See http://www.cde.ca.gov/re/es/ for the latest updates to the ESSA state plan. Note that the reference grids below are displayed for the Fall 2017 release only.
